Sworn Translation of a Patent
The Sworn Translation of a patent (brand, utility model etc…) will be essential in order to enforce said patent in a country whose official language is different to that in which it is written (for example a patent composed in German in Spain or a patent in Spanish in Germany).
Official Sworn Translation
An Official Sworn Translation is a special translation that can only be carried out by an official Sworn Translator authorised by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who will stamp the translation making it 100% valid throughout Spain.
Patents
A patent is a license that grants the right to manufacture and market the object of the patent during the period of validity (which is normally 20 years). In Spain the patent can be an invention patent, utility model protection, an industrial model or an industrial design patent.
When is a Sworn Translation of a Patent required?
You will need a Sworn Translation of a patent if you wish to enforce it (for example in court) in a country whose official language is different to that of the patent itself.
